Summary

Clearstream has expanded its institutional crypto custody offering to include XRP, Cardano, Solana, Litecoin, Stellar and Avalanche alongside Bitcoin and Ether, bringing the total number of supported assets to eight. The Deutsche Börse Group-owned post-trade services provider said the move is aimed at meeting rising demand for MiCA-compliant crypto assets from institutional clients. The service continues to run through Crypto Finance as sub-custodian. Crypto Finance holds a MiCAR license, allowing it to provide regulated crypto services across Europe, while clients access custody through existing accounts with Clearstream Banking S.A. in Luxembourg rather than setting up separate relationships with crypto providers. The expansion comes as Europe’s market adjusts to MiCA (European Union crypto rulebook), which created a single framework for custody, exchange, transfer and stablecoin services. With ESMA (European Securities and Markets Authority, EU markets regulator) expanding its register after the July 1 deadline, licensing has become increasingly important for banks, brokers, asset managers and trading firms seeking compliant access to digital assets. The broader asset list also signals that institutional crypto access in Europe is widening beyond Bitcoin and Ether as Deutsche Börse builds out regulated digital-asset rails across trading, custody and stablecoin infrastructure.
