Cloudflare is launching Monetization Gateway, a feature that lets customers charge usage-based fees for web pages, APIs and datasets. The service runs on the open x402 payment protocol and will initially support low-cost micropayments in stablecoins including OUSD and USDC as an alternative to advertising. The rollout is aimed at the AI agent era, when automated software tools may need machine-native ways to pay for online content and services.
