AI-related spending has climbed to about 8% of GDP, topping the roughly 6.5% peak reached by IT, software and R&D during the 2000 dot-com bubble.
AI investment is now contributing more than 25% of U.S. GDP growth, marking a record high, The Kobeissi Letter said. It added that AI-related spending, spanning software, IT equipment, R&D (research and development) and data center construction, has risen to about 8% of GDP. That compares with a roughly 6.5% peak for IT, software and R&D during the 2000 dot-com bubble, underscoring how large AI’s footprint has become in the broader economy.
