Hong Kong is broadening its artificial intelligence strategy with a new subsidy programme for small and medium-sized enterprises and a longer-term buildout of computing capacity. Financial Secretary Paul Chan said the city plans to roll out an upgraded Digital Transformation Support Pilot Programme this year to support SMEs adopting ready-made AI solutions. He also said the Sha Ling data park is expected to provide about 180,000 PFLOPS of computing power by 2032, around 36 times Hong Kong’s current total. Earlier, Chan had said the city was shifting from piecemeal AI efforts to a more coordinated approach spanning research and innovation, data flow and security, computing power, application scenarios, talent, and funding, while Hong Kong Investment Corporation directed 56% of last year’s project funding to hard tech including AI and backed the RISC-V open-source ecosystem.
