LSE is targeting the first half of 2027 for a standalone overnight venue, initially focused on exchange-traded products, as it looks to meet growing retail demand shaped by round-the-clock crypto and global market access.
London Stock Exchange plans to launch a standalone overnight trading platform in the first half of 2027, extending access beyond its regular session as it responds to growing retail demand for trading outside normal hours. The separate venue would run from 5 p.m. to 7:50 a.m. London time with a 30-minute pause from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. for end-of-day processing, and will initially focus on exchange-traded products rather than individual stocks. The move is aimed at attracting international retail investors increasingly used to continuous access on crypto exchanges and follows a wider push by major venues including Nasdaq, NYSE, CME, Cboe and Euronext toward longer trading windows. LSE says more than 2,600 exchange-traded products are listed on its market, spanning UK and U.S. equities, bonds and commodities, while executives say the structure is also being built with agentic trading in mind as firms use AI tools for portfolio analysis and execution.
