The U.S. is aiming to reach interim trade arrangements with Canada and Mexico before the end of the year, while pushing more difficult changes to the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement to 2027. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer told the Senate Finance Committee that thornier issues such as stricter automotive rules of origin, labor standards and environmental regulations will need longer consultations, including with Congress in the following year. He said the administration is “moving with all due speed” and plans to present options to President Donald Trump, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney before December, but did not outline the possible scope of any interim deals.
