Coinone wins FIU approval for shareholder change after 160 billion won investment

Korea Investment & Securities and OKX Ventures each bought about 20% of the South Korean digital-asset exchange, becoming joint third-largest shareholders after the filing review was completed on July 22.

Summary

Coinone said South Korea’s Financial Intelligence Unit, or FIU (financial crime watchdog), approved its filing to change major shareholders, completing a strategic equity investment by Korea Investment & Securities and OKX Ventures. The exchange said on July 23 that the review was completed on July 22. Korea Investment & Securities and OKX Ventures, the investment arm of OKX, each invested 80 billion won ($57.8 million) for about a 20% stake under agreements signed in May. Following the approval, the two investors became Coinone’s joint third-largest shareholders. Coinone said the shareholder change strengthens its framework for accountable management and gives it a more stable business base alongside new investors and existing shareholder Com2uS Holdings. The company added that it aims to improve the competitiveness of its digital-asset exchange by pairing Korea Investment & Securities’ compliance expertise with OKX’s blockchain infrastructure technology, which it said has been validated by 120 million users worldwide.
