Major indexes posted modest gains as turnover across Shanghai and Shenzhen fell to 2.2 trillion yuan, with power grid equipment, lithium mining and power stocks leading the advance.
China’s three major indexes closed slightly higher on Thursday as gains broadened across the market despite lighter trading volumes. More than 4,200 stocks advanced and over 100 hit their daily limit-up, while combined turnover in Shanghai and Shenzhen fell to 2.2 trillion yuan, down 458 billion yuan from the previous session. Power grid equipment, lithium mining and power shares led the market, with Shuangjie Electric, China XD Electric, Guocheng Mining, Shengxin Lithium Energy and Lixin Energy among the notable gainers, while the semiconductor sector lagged and Hua Hong Semiconductor fell more than 12%. By the close, the Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.25%, the Shenzhen Component Index gained 0.44% and the ChiNext Index added 0.25%.
