MoonPay launches Paybox wallet for Claude and ChatGPT shopping

MoonPay has introduced Paybox, a wallet tool designed to let Claude and ChatGPT complete consumer purchases rather than just search for options and prices. The product can be connected inside an AI agent interface without coding or separate software, and users can fund it through a bank account or with cryptocurrency. The wallet is aimed at the fast-emerging field of agentic commerce, where AI agents handle tasks on a user’s behalf. MoonPay says Paybox allows those agents to carry out transactions such as booking flights, paying for restaurant reservations and shopping on Amazon, as long as merchants support agent interactions. Users can also set guardrails, including purchase caps under $100 or alerts before any transaction is made. MoonPay argues its offering stands apart from similar tools from Robinhood and Coinbase because it is decentralized and built on x402 (open payment protocol), meaning it does not rely on MoonPay’s permission to process a transaction or steer users toward specific merchants. The company says that open approach could broaden access, though adoption may be harder because MoonPay is less familiar to consumers than brands such as Robinhood and Visa. Questions also remain over how Paybox and the wider sector will handle mistaken or fraudulent purchases.
