A new multi-year global agreement adds AAA to Mattel’s WWE portfolio, with the first made-to-order Mr. Iguana figure debuting at San Diego Comic-Con.
Mattel and WWE announced a new multi-year global licensing agreement that expands Mattel’s WWE portfolio to include Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, with a new line of AAA action figures set to launch in Fall 2027. The collection will draw on AAA’s masked stars, costumes and lucha libre storytelling, and Mattel Creations is marking the announcement with a made-to-order Mr. Iguana figure at San Diego Comic-Con. The deal follows WWE’s August 2025 announcement that it had acquired AAA in partnership with Mexico-based sports and entertainment holding company Fillip. Mattel said the move broadens its wrestling collectibles lineup beyond WWE while building on the strength of its existing business, with its WWE Elite Collection ranked the No. 1 action figure in 2025, citing Circana. Mattel and WWE highlighted AAA’s heritage and audience growth as part of the rationale for the partnership. AAA, founded in 1992 by Antonio Peña, has featured talent including Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio and Penta. Mattel said the upcoming line will include talent such as Psycho Clown, El Hijo del Viking, La Parka and Mr. Iguana. WWE and Mattel also pointed to recent AAA milestones, including a Mask vs. Mask main event at Noche de Los Grandes, a planned two-day Triplemanía 34 across Mexico City and Las Vegas in September, and an August 2025 Triplemanía broadcast that drew more than 4.3 million views in 24 hours and peaked at 614,000 concurrent live viewers.
