The payments vault connects Claude and ChatGPT to crypto and online commerce, using user approvals or preset limits while running on Sodot wallet infrastructure secured with MPC and trusted execution environments.
MoonPay launched PayBox on July 29, 2026, a non-custodial payments vault at paybox.sh that lets Claude and ChatGPT users authorize crypto and merchant transactions through natural-language prompts without code or wallet setup. The product routes requests through custom connectors for each AI platform, with users prompting an agent to prepare a transaction and then approving it by passkey. MoonPay said it never takes custody of funds. The launch also drew heavy attention for an early user reward campaign that distributed one-time USDC allocations through a faucet. Social media posts showed rewards ranging from a few dollars to as much as $1,000, with screenshots citing amounts including $5, $380, $500, $600 and $1,000. Users qualified by creating a PayBox account, connecting it to ChatGPT or Claude, creating a wallet, linking an X account and claiming through the faucet. Many said they withdrew successfully before MoonPay temporarily paused the faucet, saying it would return at “an undisclosed time” on July 30 with “more surprises for PayBox users.” MoonPay later said it gained 35,000 new followers on X within a day. PayBox supports buying crypto with fiat, swapping tokens, bridging assets and making DeFi deposits, while merchant payments run through the x402 open payment standard and card payments use Visa’s agentic commerce protocol with single-use virtual card numbers tied to specific merchants and amounts. PayBox launches with Solana as its primary settlement chain alongside seven EVM-compatible networks: Ethereum, Hyperliquid, Tempo, Base, Robinhood Chain, Arbitrum and Polygon. Users can also use it for online services such as booking flights and reserving restaurants, and MoonPay said more blockchain integrations will be added over time. The platform stores both crypto wallets and payment cards. MoonPay told The Block it plans to add token swaps, perpetual futures and liquidity management within one month of launch. Users can choose between Always Ask, which requires a fresh passkey for each transaction and expires after one use, and Autonomous, which allows the agent to act within pre-set rules such as spending caps, token allowlists and per-transaction limits. Wallet keys are managed on infrastructure from Sodot, which MoonPay acquired in April 2026, using multi-party computation across hardware-isolated secure enclaves and trusted execution environments so neither MoonPay nor the AI agent can sign alone. MoonPay said the stack has been assessed by Trail of Bits and NCC Group, is PCI DSS 4.0.1 certified, and that Sodot has secured more than $50 billion in assets across 10 million wallets. The reward campaign also triggered debate over whether linking accounts created privacy risks. MoonPay said PayBox does not access chat history or wallet private keys. Neeraj Prasad, Chief Engineer of MoonPay Labs and founder of Dawn Labs, said only tool call arguments pass through the connector, not conversation history. PayBox also supports functions beyond transfers, including credential management, portfolio tracking, cross-chain swaps, signing blockchain transactions, retrieving stored secrets with approval, monitoring pending requests and access to World prediction markets. MoonPay said it plans to expand the platform further into DeFi and additional AI platforms.
