Grayscale's Ethereum Staking Mini ETF, trading as ETH, revised its trust agreement on Aug. 6 to make staking the default for nearly all of the fund's Ether, subject to carve-outs for fees, redemptions and network emergencies. The move came four days before an Aug. 10 Internal Revenue Service deadline tied to rules published last November that allow crypto funds to stake without triggering fund-level tax, provided rewards are distributed to shareholders at least quarterly. Grayscale's structure goes further by planning monthly cash payouts. As of Aug. 6, the fund held 839,556 ETH and had staked 80.8% of those assets, leaving roughly 161,000 ETH idle as an operational buffer. Grayscale data show the Mini ETF has generated $27.3 million in net staking rewards since becoming the first U.S. issuer to activate staking in its spot crypto funds in October 2025. Net staking rewards were running at 2.61% annually after fees. The trust rewrite sharpens the fund's income profile at a time when competitors are pressing on fees and yield. Morgan Stanley has launched Ethereum and Solana funds charging 0.14%, below Grayscale's 0.15%, while institutions including Intesa Sanpaolo have shifted toward staked Ethereum products this year. Ethereum was trading near $1,915, up 0.4% over 24 hours, leaving staking income as a modest but steady addition to price exposure. Future disclosures are expected to show how quickly Grayscale lifts the share of staked assets from 80.8% toward fuller deployment.
