JIMOTHY, a Solana-based meme coin, jumped again on Aug. 8 after Elon Musk posted an AI-generated laser-eye raccoon video on X without naming the token, and crypto KOL Ansem's reply, "is that jimothy?", helped push the trade into wider view. GMGN data showed the token's market capitalization briefly exceeded $18 million before slipping to about $15.4 million, up 257.3% over 24 hours on $15.9 million in volume. The token, launched on Solana's Pump.fun platform and named after a Seattle raccoon with a rare congenital condition, draws on an internet story that began with a July 14 video from local residents and has since generated nearly 8 million views along with memes, murals and merchandise. The rally adds to JIMOTHY's history of attention-driven spikes, including an earlier roughly 52-fold jump and another move after a mention from an official White House social media account, underscoring the volatility and limited fundamental backing common in meme coins.
