A volunteer security initiative focused on Bitcoin said frontier AI models helped it scan about 150 repositories and uncover more than a dozen vulnerabilities, underscoring how artificial intelligence is becoming a bigger tool in crypto security work. The effort uses Kimi K3, OpenAI's GPT Sol, Anthropic's Claude Fable and Opus models, and Z.ai's GLM 5.2 to identify flaws and generate supporting documentation. Pseudonymous Bitcoin developer Calle said the project has built multiple AI-powered review systems for wallets, cryptographic libraries, infrastructure and other Bitcoin-related software, adding that the team was finding roughly one critical exploit per hour per person and had reported critical vulnerabilities to several projects in the previous 12 hours. The group did not name the affected projects or disclose technical details. The development comes as recent incidents involving Coldcard and Bitcoin bridge Boltz highlight how AI is being used by both security researchers and attackers to find software weaknesses faster.
