OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, an artificial intelligence startup focused on automated presentation creation, in a deal that closed earlier this year and was publicly confirmed on August 8, 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed. NextSlide founder Ahmed Beshry said the announcement came "a few months late" because the transaction had already closed, and said the team is now working on ChatGPT. NextSlide built a platform that turned prompts, notes, documents, and research into polished, editable presentations, and Beshry said the company aimed to make visual communication more accessible and help people express ideas clearly. The acquisition points to OpenAI's effort to push ChatGPT beyond a text chatbot into a multimodal productivity suite, potentially allowing users to create both presentation copy and slide design inside one interface. That would place ChatGPT in more direct competition with Microsoft PowerPoint's AI-powered Designer and Copilot features, as well as presentation startups such as Gamma and Tome. The deal also reflects a broader pattern in AI, where major model developers buy smaller specialized teams for product vision and talent as enterprises demand tools that produce finished work rather than text alone.
