Sedric Louis, John Davis and Martel Williams, three men from St. Louis, have been charged with conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery after allegedly plotting a home invasion in Connecticut to force victims to transfer cryptocurrency linked to a Bitcoin theft worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Prosecutors said the men traveled to the state between Aug. 21 and Aug. 24, 2024, rented a car, assembled items including an air pistol and walkie-talkies, and spent two days watching the target and the target's parents before calling off the plan because they feared home cameras had captured them. A separate group from Florida later carried out the same plan, and six people were arrested on Aug. 25 in connection with a Lamborghini Urus carjacking case. Each defendant faces up to 20 years in prison; Louis and Davis have been held since their June 25 arrests and pleaded not guilty in federal court in Bridgeport on July 30, while Williams entered the same plea on July 17 and was released on bail. Prosecutors said the intended kidnapping victims were the parents of a person involved in the Bitcoin theft, and the indictment is not evidence of guilt.
