South Korea’s lead in high-bandwidth memory has become a core pillar of the global AI buildout, Nvidia co-founder Chris Malachowsky said, praising Samsung Electronics and SK hynix as foundational to AI supercomputing as both companies prepare to present next-generation memory technologies at Hot Chips. His remarks came amid forecasts from SigmaIntel, Omdia, Counterpoint Research and Goldman Sachs that AI infrastructure spending is tightening supply not only in HBM but also in DRAM and NAND flash, lifting prices and supporting expectations for stronger, longer-lasting earnings at the two South Korean memory makers, with some analysts saying bottlenecks could last through 2027 and Goldman Sachs saying shortages could persist through 2030.
