Tesla and Elon Musk’s latest week of headlines spanned manufacturing, policy and artificial intelligence. Tesla’s Energy Storage unit said its Brookshire, Texas, plant has started operations 16 months after groundbreaking and is designed to produce 50 gigawatt-hours of Megapack 3 capacity annually. Tesla also confirmed that eligible California buyers may qualify for a $3,500 incentive on certain new inventory Model 3 and Model Y purchases if the vehicles are registered and delivered in the state, while President Donald Trump reiterated support for fossil fuels and praised the end of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit. Musk separately outlined Terafab, a planned 100-million-square-foot semiconductor complex in Grimes County, Texas, with a first phase carrying more than $16.8 billion in capital investment and 3,000 expected jobs, according to Texas Governor Greg Abbott. Musk said about 25% of the facility’s output would go to Tesla’s Optimus robot and 75% to SpaceX’s AI spacecraft, while Tesla AI Chief Ashok Elluswamy said the company is prioritizing Full Self-Driving development around learning users’ implied preferences rather than restoring Max Speed control on AI3 or AI4 vehicles.
