Michigan gasoline prices fell 21 cents from a week earlier, with AAA-The Auto Club Group putting the statewide average at about $4.14 to $4.15 a gallon. Branch and Hillsdale counties were the cheapest reported markets at roughly $3.87 to $3.88 a gallon, while higher-priced areas included Ann Arbor at $4.26 to $4.27 and Mackinac County at $4.41. The decline pushed 11 Michigan communities and counties below $4 a gallon, though prices still remained above last month and well above a year ago in the earlier comparison. Indiana remained cheaper at about $3.48 a gallon after Governor Mike Braun extended the state's gas tax holiday into September. The near-term outlook remained uncertain as oil traded around $79 a barrel and diplomatic uncertainty over Middle East shipping lanes, including the Strait of Hormuz, continued to affect fuel markets.
