U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States will formally seek compensation from Iran in future negotiations after Iran, he said, asked for reparations over damage from the past five months of military conflict. Trump said that demand had not previously been raised in talks between the two sides. He said Washington would pursue compensation for casualties tied to several past confrontations, including those killed in the USS Cole destroyer incident and other combat deaths. Trump also said Iran should compensate the families of protesters it had suppressed over the past 50 years. He added that 52,000 people had died during the past five months of conflict and said he had instructed U.S. representatives to formally present the compensation demands in all future negotiations.
