Drone strikes at Libya's Zawiya refinery have risen to five since Sunday after two attacks on diesel tanks on Tuesday caused fires that were quickly contained, with no casualties and no disruption to fuel supplies, the National Oil Corporation said. The latest strike pierced the roof of diesel tank No. 4/4 after an earlier attack hit diesel tank No. 2/4, both coming after operations resumed from previous damage that included a gasoline tank fire and earlier hits on a naphtha reservoir and a desalination plant. Zawiya, about 40 kilometers west of Tripoli, is Libya's largest operating refinery with capacity of 120,000 barrels per day and a critical supply point for western Libya, where NOC has previously warned it could suspend operations if attacks persist. The violence has unfolded alongside clashes between armed groups in Zawiya and nearby Surman, underscoring Libya's broader split between the Tripoli-based Government of National Unity led by Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh and a rival administration appointed by the House of Representatives and headed by Osama Hammad in Benghazi.
