Blockstream has introduced Blockstream Swaps, a new feature designed to let users make trustless swaps across the Bitcoin main chain, the Lightning Network (Bitcoin payments layer) and Liquid. The company said the service is meant to help users move funds between layers while retaining full control of their assets, rather than relying on a custodian. It also aims to simplify Lightning usage by allowing payments without running a node or maintaining a channel, with swaps occurring at the moment of payment from a Bitcoin or LBTC balance. The launch comes after non-custodial swap provider Boltz suspended its Bitcoin swap service this month, saying attackers were identifying vulnerabilities faster than its team could fix them using AI. Blockstream said its initiative had already been in development and was intended to support the broader Bitcoin and Liquid ecosystem by adding resilience, complementing existing providers instead of replacing them. The move lands amid a broader rise in crypto hacks, as security experts warn that cybercriminals are increasingly using AI to discover software bugs and exploit issues that auditors may have missed.
