Francisco Partners has agreed to acquire Moneris Solutions from Bank of Montreal and Royal Bank of Canada for about C$2.0 billion, with the two banks each receiving 50% of the proceeds and maintaining long-term referral and commercial relationships with the payments company. RBC said it expects to record an after-tax gain of about C$475 million when the transaction closes in the first quarter of fiscal 2027. The deal keeps in place Moneris' Canadian footprint, including nearly 2,000 employees and technology infrastructure based in Canada, and Jeff Sloan, former President and CEO of Global Payments Inc., is set to join as chairman. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals, including under the Retail Payment Activities Act and the Competition Act.
