Webtoon Entertainment, the parent company of Naver Webtoon, said it signed a strategic investment agreement with RI Games Holdings on the 10th and will own a 60% stake once the deal closes, as it steps up efforts to turn popular webtoon intellectual property into global game franchises. The two companies plan to jointly develop and release multiple new games over the next four years based on webtoon series with large global audiences, including The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor, The Reincarnated Assassin and Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. RI Games Holdings, founded in 2022 by Han Tae-il, oversees GrayGames and Offbeat and has a development team with experience on titles including MapleStory M, Tower of God: New World, The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross, Lineage W and Aion. The first project is an action MMORPG based on The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor, developed by GrayGames and published by Nexon, with a global launch targeted this year. Webtoon Entertainment said the move is part of a broader franchise strategy that links games with planned animated adaptations, including an animated series for The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor set to air in October.
