Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix extended a broader memory-stock rally after reports said Singapore state investor Temasek plans direct investments in the two South Korean chipmakers and has discussed timing with the Korean government. By the U.S. close, SK Hynix ADRs had risen 9.01%, while memory and storage-related names including SanDisk, Western Digital, Seagate and Micron Technology also advanced. Earlier reporting had framed Temasek's stance more cautiously as a review of possible investments and timing; the latest account describes a decision to invest directly through its in-house team, which would mark its first direct investment in the Korean stock market if completed. Temasek manages about $401 billion across roughly 630 companies and said in July that AI-related investments accounted for 6% of its portfolio, with a goal of lifting that share to as much as 15% by 2031 across semiconductors, data centers, cloud services, AI models and software infrastructure.
