A former senior official at the Korea Food Research Institute lost a wrongful dismissal lawsuit after being fired for secretly mining cryptocurrency with institute resources, Yonhap News reported. The individual, identified only as A, installed two GPU servers in a storage area at a promotional hall whose operations had effectively been suspended and mined about 71 million altcoins from February to September 2023. The case also involved air-conditioning installation and network and electrical work paid for with the institute’s budget. The court said the dismissal did not amount to a disciplinary action that had lost validity under socially accepted standards, ruling against the plaintiff.
