Tencent's AI workplace assistant WorkBuddy reached 20.97 million monthly visits in June, topping ByteDance's Trae and Alibaba's QoderWork to become China's leading product in the category ahead of Tencent's quarterly results on Wednesday. Launched in March during the AI application boom sparked by OpenClaw, WorkBuddy is drawing unusual scrutiny because workplace productivity tools target a broader white-collar market than developer-focused products. Barclays Capital analyst Jiong Shao said encouraging WorkBuddy metrics could change market perceptions of Tencent's AI position, while Morningstar senior equity analyst Ivan Su said deep integration with WeChat and its more than one billion users gives the product a strong ecosystem moat. The focus comes as Tencent shares remain down more than 20% this year despite rebounding about 17% from their June swing low, versus an about 11% decline in the Hang Seng Tech Index. Investors are also watching capital expenditure for AI infrastructure, with the market expecting second-quarter revenue growth near 10% and net profit growth around 5%.
