South Korea has begun assessing the impact of new U.S. trade measures on polysilicon and related products, convening ministries and companies including Samsung Electronics and OCI Company to examine risks to exports and Korean supply chains in the United States before the measures take effect on Dec. 4, 2026. The U.S. action, signed by President Donald Trump on Aug. 6, 2026 under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, includes a $21 per kilogram minimum import price for polysilicon from all origins and an additional 15% ad valorem duty on downstream derivatives such as ingots, wafers, solar cells, and modules. South Korea's Trade Ministry said it would provide timely and targeted support for local businesses, while Oman-based United Solar said it supports the measures and expects them to emphasize traceability, supply-chain resilience, and domestic U.S. downstream manufacturing.
