DeepSeek Harness, the team behind DeepSeek's agent execution layer, has opened an independent WeChat public account and received enterprise verification, signaling a more formal public presence ahead of an anticipated launch. The verified entity is Beijing DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence Fundamental Technology Research Co., Ltd., identified in the report as DeepSeek's Beijing branch, suggesting Harness may be getting its first dedicated official communications channel separate from DeepSeek's main WeChat account. Earlier reports cited by 21st Century Business Herald said the Harness business line was internally approved in May 2026, with a standalone core team led by Cui Tianyi. A new report adds that DeepSeek activated official social media accounts around August 12 and has begun advertising roles for a team building AI agents, including a coding product intended to compete with Anthropic's Claude Code, GitHub Copilot from Microsoft and OpenAI's Codex. The push traces back to May 20, when senior researcher Deli Chen announced the formation of the "Harness" team to build "Code Harness," an internally developed code agent. DeepSeek, founded in July 2023 with backing from the High-Flyer hedge fund, is reported to employ about 160 to 200 people. In June it posted more than 30 openings across departments, with a stated goal of doubling the size of every team, underscoring a broader shift from research toward product development. The company's DeepSeek-V3 and R1 models had already drawn attention for competitive performance despite constraints from US export controls on advanced AI chips affecting Chinese AI companies.
