Iljin Electric (103590.KS) reported record first-half results as spending on power-grid upgrades and data center construction boosted both its heavy electrical equipment and cable businesses. Consolidated first-half revenue rose 16.6% from a year earlier to 1.14 trillion won ($807.0 million), while operating profit jumped 71.3% to 122.7 billion won ($86.6 million), marking the company’s largest first-half figures on record and the first time its first-half revenue topped 1 trillion won. In the second quarter alone, revenue reached 637.4 billion won ($449.8 million) and operating profit was about 72 billion won ($50.8 million), up about 26% and 41.7%, respectively, from the first quarter, while operating profit climbed about 91% from a year earlier. The company said replacement of aging U.S. power grids, renewable-energy related grid investment in Europe, and AI-driven data center expansion globally are supporting demand for transformers, circuit breakers and cables, with domestic renewable energy and data center growth also contributing. Its order backlog stood at about $1.94 billion, equivalent to roughly 2.99 trillion won, at the end of the first half, up about 10% in dollar terms from the end of the first quarter. Heavy electrical equipment accounted for about 67% of backlog, cable made up about 33%, and overseas orders represented about 76%, underscoring the company’s reliance on global markets. Iljin Electric said ongoing shipments from secured orders and expected large project wins should support growth in the second half.
