Italy's trade surplus narrowed to €4.23 billion in June 2026 from €5.38 billion a year earlier, below market expectations of €4.74 billion, as imports rose 13.2% to €55.5 billion and outpaced a 9.8% increase in exports to €59.8 billion. Imports from non-EU countries climbed 18.7%, while imports from EU countries rose 9.1%, led by Germany at 14.1%. Exports increased broadly, with the biggest gains to Germany, the Netherlands and France, although exports to the UK fell 8.5%. Italy's trade surplus with the European Union widened to €1.577 billion in June from €0.845 billion in May. For the first half of 2026, Italy's overall trade surplus widened to €24.5 billion from €22.8 billion a year earlier.
