The global hyperscale data center market is projected to grow from $245.0 billion in 2026 to $1.21 trillion by 2040 at a 12.1% compound annual growth rate, according to a ResearchAndMarkets-listed industry report, as AI workloads, hyperscale cloud expansion, high-density GPU deployments, data sovereignty requirements and demand for more energy-efficient digital infrastructure drive investment. The report said infrastructure priorities are shifting from traditional cloud optimization toward power-intensive AI computing clusters, increasing demand for direct-to-chip liquid cooling, immersion cooling, high-speed networking, advanced power management and gigawatt-scale campuses. Key findings cited in the release included IT infrastructure accounting for 34.0% of the market in 2026, cloud deployment representing 46.0%, massive hyperscale facilities taking 49.0%, cloud computing workloads holding 31.0%, and North America leading with a 41.0% regional share. Multi-cloud deployment is forecast to expand at a 14.7% CAGR through 2040, liquid cooling systems are expected to post the fastest growth, and Asia-Pacific is projected to be the fastest-growing region with a 14.5% CAGR. The report linked competitive positioning increasingly to access to power, deployment speed, thermal management, GPU availability and regional cloud coverage. It said Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, Meta and Oracle are expected to invest a combined $660 billion to $690 billion in capital expenditure during 2026, with Amazon projecting about $200 billion, Alphabet expected to raise capital expenditure to $175 billion-$185 billion in 2026 after about $75 billion in 2025, and Microsoft having allocated $80 billion during 2025 to AI-optimized data centers and Azure infrastructure. The release also highlighted CoreWeave's footprint of 32 data center facilities and about 250,000 GPUs as of 2025, Vantage Data Centers' financing of more than $2 billion in January 2026 after an additional $1.6 billion equity investment in November 2025, and Emerald AI's work on coordinating AI workloads with real-time grid availability. Recent transactions cited as signals of strategic importance included Alphabet's acquisition of renewable energy developer Intersect in December 2025 and the $40 billion acquisition of Aligned Data Centers by a consortium comprising BlackRock, Microsoft, NVIDIA and xAI. The findings add broader market context to continuing data center power-infrastructure spending, including previously reported forecasts for UPS and busway systems tied to AI and hyperscale buildouts.
