XRP Ledger architect and former Ripple chief technology officer David Schwartz criticized Bitcoin Knots on Aug. 11 after the project said Bitcoin was "under attack" when BIP-110 enforcing nodes split from the dominant chain and then stalled at block 961,633. The branch began enforcing at block 961,632, produced two blocks, and stopped, while OCEAN data still showed no third block roughly 59 hours later. The proposal has since been marked Closed in the official BIP repository, which cited the chain split and stalled mining. Bitcoin Knots said it would pick a new proof-of-work (method miners use to secure the network) algorithm at 14:00 UTC on Aug. 11 through deterministic random selection in its Discord strategy channel, a step that could determine whether the minority chain continues as a separate network. The dispute also spilled into Bitcoin governance, with Luke Dashjr losing BIP editor privileges on Aug. 10 after concerns were raised about his involvement in BIP-110 and his use of editorial privileges.
