Cole Villemain, a Pudgy Penguins co-founder voted out by the community in January 2022, sold out the 44,444-item Spritehood NFT mint on Robinhood Chain in about 53 minutes on Aug. 11, generating roughly $1.2829 million, or about 684.28 ETH at the time of sale. On-chain data compiled by analyst 0xlaplaced showed 37,430 NFTs sold at $17 and 5,526 at $117, while 1,488 more were distributed for free across 20 zero-price transactions before the public sale, pushing the total supply to 44,444. The launch has sharpened attention on Robinhood Chain, the Arbitrum-based Ethereum Layer 2 network that Robinhood opened to the public on July 1, 2026. Although the brokerage built the chain with tokenized stocks and U.S. Treasuries in mind, permissionless deployment has allowed speculative assets such as memecoins and creator-led NFT mints to dominate early activity. Robinhood has said the network is separate from its regulated financial services, and nothing in the available reporting indicated the company organized, promoted or endorsed Spritehood. Debate around the project has centered on both transparency and Villemain's history. Blockscout labels the Spritehood contract as unverified, limiting public review of its code even though the contract can still function on-chain. Critics on X described the launch as a stealth paid mint rather than a free mint and called it a cash grab, while older allegations tied to Villemain's role in Pudgy Penguins and criticism from ZachXBT resurfaced. Villemain announced the sellout with the message, "Sold out. I'm back in the NFT game." Secondary trading has been uneven. OpenSea data showed 4,074 unique owners, indicating the collection remains highly concentrated, with only 5.2% of supply listed for sale. The floor price stood at $35.21 with 24-hour volume of $781,000 at the time of reporting, and some rare items traded as high as 0.88 ETH. The sale's strong primary-market result underscores continued appetite for creator-led NFT launches even as the sector remains divisive and Robinhood Chain's longer-term NFT momentum is still uncertain.
