Manus said it is resuming operations as an independent company after the collapse of Meta's roughly $2 billion acquisition and told affected users to complete data backups before 7:59 a.m. Singapore time on Aug. 23, with restoration available from 8:00 a.m. on Aug. 25. The company said the transition, tied to regulatory requirements in some jurisdictions, will require deletion of certain user data generated on and after Dec. 29, 2025, the day Meta announced the acquisition. Caixin separately reported that previous major shareholders including Tencent, ZhenFund and Sequoia China are buying back Manus from Meta for about $2 billion, with Tencent set to become the largest shareholder because Benchmark is not participating. LatePost also reported that Manus has completed development of Manus 2.0, its first major post-independence release, but is waiting to launch it until the Meta transaction is fully concluded; the company remains on version 1.6, has kept its 150-plus staff intact, and is restarting with a product said to be generating more than $300 million in annual recurring revenue.
