Coinbase said on August 12 that Coinbase Business is broadening its payment services with support for AI agent transactions, USDT and a set of merchant tools aimed at making crypto payments easier for businesses. A central part of the update is compatibility with x402, an open machine-to-machine payment standard, allowing merchants already using Coinbase Checkout to accept transactions initiated directly by AI agents, or software that can act autonomously. Funds from those payments settle instantly in USDC to a business account, where merchants can earn yield or withdraw at any time. Coinbase Business also supports USDT across payment links, checkout pages and invoices, with received funds automatically converted into USDC and settled into the Coinbase Business account. The company added reusable payment links, flexible pricing, a unified product catalog and buyer information collection, and said the service offers lower fees than credit cards, no chargebacks, instant USDC settlement and yield on idle USDC balances for businesses adopting crypto payments.
