Google said its Gemini artificial intelligence assistant has reached 1 billion monthly active users, a milestone announced by CEO Sundar Pichai that makes it the fastest-growing product in the company’s history and the 14th Google product to cross the billion-user threshold. Fresh figures show the pace of growth is accelerating: Gemini passed 750 million monthly active users in February, rose to 900 million in May, reached 950 million in July and then added about 50 million more in less than a month. Google said 63% of users speak directly with Gemini, while about one in five Gemini Live interactions now uses a camera or screen sharing. The company also said Gemini generates more than 150 million images a day and has more than 100 million active users on iOS. The update places Gemini in the same billion-scale band as ChatGPT, though not clearly ahead of it. Sensor Tower estimated the ChatGPT app reached 1 billion monthly active users in May, while OpenAI said in July that ChatGPT hit 1 billion weekly active users.
