The companies said they had permission to lease storage space near Nerlerit Inaat airport but did not realize a separate permit from the mineral resources authority was needed, and said they would work with authorities as they refine project plans, logistics and infrastructure. Greenlandic public broadcaster KNR described the episode as a "strong warning" from the government and an apparent setback for the project. The venture covers about 2 million acres in East Greenland under licences granted before Greenland halted new oil licensing in 2021, and shares of Greenland Energy and 80 Mile fell sharply after the update.
