Koscom, NH Investment & Securities sign MOU on tokenized securities

Koscom and NH Investment & Securities have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on tokenized securities and digital-asset business development as South Korea prepares to put token securities legislation into effect in February next year. NH said on Aug. 13 that the agreement was signed the previous day at Koscom's headquarters in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, and that it will join the shared STO platform Koscom is developing for multiple financial institutions. The companies plan to verify systems and business processes on the platform, link STO issuance and account management operations, develop new business models tied to digital assets and tokenized securities, and coordinate their response to regulatory and market changes. NH said it also wants to use the partnership to assess technical requirements, examine integration with existing systems, test whether distributed ledger technology can be applied to real securities operations, and draw up commercialization plans based on issuance, rights management and redemption processes. The tie-up also widens the discussion around which assets can be tokenized. Beyond non-standardized products backed by real-world assets, the firms plan to examine standardized securities including bonds, debt and equity instruments. Koscom said it is building shared STO infrastructure to lower development burdens for brokerages and is also testing related systems, including issuance infrastructure with LG CNS, a Korea Securities Depository testbed and a stablecoins-based STO settlement proof of concept. NH recently formed a digital-asset task force to prepare business models and execution strategies in the sector.
