SSG.com said July grocery revenue rose 12% from a year earlier as stronger scheduled and instant delivery, broader fresh-food offerings through E-Mart and higher take-up of its paid Ssuk7Club membership lifted online grocery growth in South Korea. Second-quarter revenue from its Ssuk Weekly Delivery scheduled-delivery service increased 17% year-on-year, with July growth nearing 30%, while BaroQuick, an instant delivery service that brings orders to customers within about an hour inside a 3-kilometer radius of E-Mart stores, posted a 151% jump in second-quarter orders from the first quarter and a 244% rise in June from January. The company is widening its Two-Hour Delivery pilot from Yangjae and Hanam to around 10 E-Mart stores this month before expanding to as many as 50 by year-end, targeting daily processing capacity of up to 150,000 orders. SSG.com said better cold chain management, strong repeat buying under its Freshness Guarantee program and member cashback promotions also supported demand, while Choi Taek-won, CEO of SSG.com, said the company would keep improving delivery speed and profitability.
