TAIEX holds above 46,000 after early 380-point jump as sector rotation deepens

Taiwan's benchmark TAIEX stayed above 46,000 in morning trade on Aug. 14 after a 503-point jump in the previous session, though an early gain of more than 380 points faded as heavyweight shares diverged and sector rotation intensified. The index touched 46,402 before easing back to 46,167.7 by 10:48 a.m., up 146.22 points, or 0.32%, on turnover of about NT$635.77 billion. TSMC fell about 0.4% to NT$2,425, while MediaTek rose nearly 2% to NT$4,300, Delta Electronics gained about 3.5%, and Hon Hai, Quanta and AI server names including Asustek, Wiwynn, Inventec and Wistron advanced. Asustek surged more than 7% to break above NT$1,000, taking the number of Taiwan's "thousand-dollar stocks" to 52 as Voltronic Power Technology and Gallant Precision Machining also reclaimed that level. Petrochemical shares outperformed, led by a limit-up move in Nan Ya Plastics, while passive component stocks pulled back sharply after the previous day's rally. Analysts said cooling U.S. July CPI data and upbeat guidance from SanDisk helped drive valuation repair and support memory-related shares, but they expect the TAIEX to consolidate in a 46,000-48,000 range near term as investors watch whether foreign buying persists and whether NVIDIA's earnings later this month can extend momentum in AI server, PCB, thermal management and memory plays.
