The Timms Review said it is moving into the recommendation-development phase of its review of Personal Independence Payment, or PIP, after publishing an interim report in July, with recommendation-shaping workshops planned across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in September and October. The review said thousands of people have contributed over the past year and that while PIP remains a vital source of financial support, the current system does not consistently deliver its purpose, with many people describing assessments and decision-making as stressful, impersonal or dehumanising, and difficult to trust. The next stage will focus on developing reform recommendations through continued co-production with disabled people, including workshops run with selected Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisations, or DDPOs, and charities in each region. The review is also analysing responses to its call for evidence, drawing on feedback from more than 130 workshops run by local, regional and national groups across the UK, and working with the National Centre for Social Research, or NatCen, on a nationally representative survey of working-age disabled people. The co-chairs said the recommendations will be refined over the coming months before a final report is submitted to the Secretary of State this autumn.
