Nvidia broadens autonomous driving and physical AI partnerships with automakers and LG

Nvidia has extended its push into autonomous driving and physical AI through separate developments in mobility, robotics and AI infrastructure. At GTC in San Jose, the company said BYD, Geely, Nissan and Isuzu will adopt its DRIVE Hyperion platform for Level 4-capable vehicles, while Hyundai Motor Group and Kia are extending collaboration through Motional. Nvidia also said Uber plans to launch Nvidia-powered robotaxis in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area in the first half of 2027 and target 28 cities worldwide by 2028, with Bolt, Grab and Lyft also committing to the platform. Separately, LG Group and Nvidia signed a strategic business cooperation memorandum of understanding at Nvidia's Santa Clara headquarters and moved from broad discussions held in Seoul in June to detailed development and demonstration schedules across robotics, AI factories and mobility. The companies said they will form a joint task force covering research and development, on-site validation and commercialization. In robotics, LG is developing a bipedal humanoid reference robot targeted for unveiling in the first quarter of next year using Nvidia's Isaac GR00T humanoid foundation model and Jetson Thor, while also planning to deploy a wheel-based CLOiD robot this year on a washing-machine production line in Tennessee. In AI factories, LG plans a reference site in the first half of next year based on Nvidia's Vera Rubin platform and aims to expand that into an 80-megawatt AI factory in Cheonan in the first half of 2028, combining Nvidia's DSX architecture with technologies from LG affiliates and LS. In mobility, the companies plan to combine Drive Hyperion with LG's in-vehicle infotainment and software capabilities to develop a high-performance computing platform for AI-defined vehicles and broaden LG's automotive electronics business into autonomous driving.
