Pakistan's closure of its border with Iran has also blocked subsidized fuel inflows and fish exports, worsening pressure on coastal communities already facing climate change and overfishing. Industry figures said rising fuel costs have driven a sharp slump in local demand for boats, while orders from Iran have dried up for five months and overall new orders have fallen by up to 90%. Fishermen are now looking to diplomatic efforts by Pakistan and Qatar to secure a ceasefire, reopen the Strait of Hormuz (the narrow waterway crucial to Gulf oil and trade flows) and revive their livelihoods.
