Michael Burry said an unusually long period without a broad-based stock market selloff is a warning sign that a reversal may be building beneath the surface. He cited research from BTIG technical strategist Jonathan Krinsky showing that Wednesday was the 182nd consecutive trading session without at least 80% of New York Stock Exchange volume declining, an uncommon stretch that Krinsky said could make 2026 the first year in at least 30 years without one such session. Burry said that technical signal is easy to ignore on its own, but argued that long market cycles can take months or years to play out, making leverage especially dangerous even when an investor's broader thesis is eventually right. He said the key is to avoid leverage and not get caught up in someone else's folly. The warning comes as Burry has also raised concerns that the AI boom could end in overcapacity, described Nvidia's effort to unlock more than $500 billion in AI infrastructure financing as a "Wall Street stunt," and maintained bearish positions against several AI-linked companies and the iShares Semiconductor ETF.
