Chinese equities extended the previous session’s gains on Thursday, led by technology names as improving sentiment around artificial intelligence supported regional markets. The Shanghai Composite rose 0.3% to 3,957 and the Shenzhen Component added 1% to 14,554, mirroring strength across Asia during a renewed AI-driven rally. Investor appetite for tech stocks continued to recover after last month’s sharp selloff as strong earnings from major technology companies reinforced confidence in continued spending on AI infrastructure and suggested adoption is spreading across a broader set of use cases. In China, trading centered on Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. ahead of earnings due later Thursday, with net profit expected to more than double from a year earlier. Cambricon Technologies gained 1.4%, SMIC rose 2%, Zhongji Innolight climbed 3.8%, Eoptolink Technology advanced 3.1%, and NAURA Technology added 1.9%. Energy shares underperformed, with PetroChina down 3.6% and CNOOC falling 2.5%.
