Mirae Asset Group is moving to strengthen the balance sheet of Korbit's operator with a 50 billion won ($36.1 million) capital increase, its first major recapitalization since taking control of the cryptocurrency exchange. DigitalX approved the third-party allotment on Aug. 12, issuing 10,078,614 new common shares at 4,961 won each, with Mirae Asset Consulting set to buy all of them and complete payment on Aug. 27. The company said the proceeds will be used to improve its financial structure and secure emergency funding for management needs. The move comes after Mirae Asset Consulting acquired Korbit for about 130 billion won ($93.9 million) and won business combination approval from the Fair Trade Commission (South Korea's antitrust regulator) last month. Mirae Asset now plans to build DigitalX into a platform connecting traditional financial assets and digital assets, a role Park Hyeon-joo described as a core part of the group's "Mirae Asset 3.0" strategy.
