Deribit secures Dubai VARA Broker-Dealer Licence, links spot trading to Coinbase Exchange

Deribit has received a Broker-Dealer Licence from Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority, allowing the Coinbase-owned platform to route spot buy, sell and trade orders placed on Deribit to Coinbase Exchange for execution. The change upgrades a spot service Deribit has offered since January 2025 under its VARA Exchange Services licence, connecting Deribit's interface and derivatives ecosystem to Coinbase Exchange's centralized order book. Coinbase said the rollout begins immediately for retail, qualified and institutional investors, should improve liquidity and spreads, and will expand access to hundreds of additional assets, although a small number of assets will still trade on Deribit's own spot book as a fallback. Assets bought through the service may also become eligible as derivatives collateral on Deribit, subject to regulatory approval, in a closer operational integration following Coinbase's acquisition of the exchange.
