SK Telecom rose 8.67% to 99,000 won by 10:45 a.m. on the 14th, after touching 100,300 won, as investors bet its AI assets could be revalued by progress at Anthropic and stronger AI infrastructure earnings. The move followed a Financial Times report that Anthropic could pursue an IPO as early as October at a valuation above $2 trillion, while another source highlighted reported remarks by CEO Dario Amodei, a confidential IPO filing and a separate $965 billion valuation figure, underscoring uncertainty over its private-market pricing. SK Telecom invested $100 million in Anthropic in 2023 for about a 2% stake, now diluted to roughly 0.3%, and also joined its Series H round last month alongside Samsung Electronics and SK hynix. Investors are also watching the government’s second-round review of SK Telecom’s sovereign AI foundation model project and growth in its AI data center business, with NH Investment & Securities maintaining a buy rating and 115,000 won target price after second-quarter operating profit rose 67.3% and SK Broadband IDC revenue increased 92.5%.
