Hyundai Motor shares rose 8.36% to 453,500 won by 3:06 p.m. on August 14 as investors increasingly focused on a second-half recovery in the automaker's core vehicle business. Expectations strengthened ahead of next month's launch of the Genesis GV80 Hybrid, the brand's first hybrid model, after Hyundai Motor and Kia posted combined first-half hybrid sales of 353,668 units, up 25% from a year earlier. DS Investment & Securities said a broader rollout spanning the Grandeur Hybrid, Avante and Tucson hybrids, and the Genesis GV80 and G80 hybrids should improve the sales mix, while disruptions tied to a fire at a parts supplier have been resolved and normalization should begin in the third quarter. Analysts said second-quarter earnings likely marked the trough: revenue still reached a record 49 trillion won ($35.4 billion) despite raw material and tariff burdens, U.S. hybrid sales rose 24% to 1.158 million units in the first half, and earlier gains were also supported by strong July export data and robot AI-related optimism across Hyundai Motor Group.
